An Introduction to jacksun.

When I was 15 years old, I began writing hip-hop music in the basement of my Minnesota home. The original songs were mostly “joke raps” to amuse my friends, but when I quit basketball later that year and opened up some more free time, I started to take the craft more seriously.

I began under the pen name “J-Yak,” and wrote and recorded 9 different mixtapes between 2010 and 2014. In the summer of 2014, I wrote the last of my albums – “Valleys” – under the J-Yak name. Then launched “Jacksun.” This became the stage name that I’ve been using since my senior year of college. The bulk of my music from the Jacksun. era, and prior to the release of Fargone EP (2020) can be found on Soundcloud.

In December 2019, I left my highly-intensive job and vowed to stop separating the music self from the professional self. Fargone EP represents that transition in thought process, while also paying homage to the community that I now call ‘home’: Fargo, ND. This website was created strictly as a means of linking to my music, podcasts, and related content and merchandise. If you like what you hear, please share this with a friend… or me. I’ll be your friend. Thank you!
